Town Centre: BT has been given permission to replace its 1990s-era call boxes in Havelock Street and The Parade in the town centre with street hubs.

The black monoliths have screens for advertising and provide wifi and USB ports for rapid device charging, free phone calls and a direct 999 call They also contain environmental sensors to measure air quality, noise and traffic levels.

BT was earlier refused permission for similar hubs in Prospect Place in Old Town and by Aldi supermarket in Rodbourne Road.

Wanborough: A farmer who might lose access to his farmyard has been offered something of a lifeline by his neighbour. The access to Upper Wanborough Farm off ham Road in the village goes through a yard owned by someone else. That access is being revoked, which could leave the farmyard impossible to reach. The owner of Brockfield Farm further down the road, which has a direct access to Ham Road, has applied to build a private farm road between the two yards, allowing full access to Upper Wanborough farm again.

Liddington: The Maspero family, which owns Rhodes farm House in Liddington want to create a bedsit apartment for a member of staff in their old farm barn. The family already has permission to use the barn as a garage for cars and to store their personal collection of old farm machinery.

Now the Masperos have asked for permission to create a small one-deb flat, with a shower and lavatory in the space for a staff member. They say the shower and toilet would also b of use to the gardener who works on the property.

Old Town: A plan to convert an undertakers offices in a house back to homes0 but this time three flats has been approved. Applicant A Dallimer will be able to convert the two-storey terraced house into two-one bed apartments on the ground floor, and one two-bed flat on the upper floor.

This application proposal is for a small bedsit that would provide modest accommodation for a staff member to sleep overnight on the application site, and the proposed wc and shower would also be used by the applicant’s gardener.

Broad Green: Cricketers should find it easier to groove their forward defensive if a new application is approved. Swindon Cricket Club, which plays at the County Ground, has applied to extend its net area, used for batting and bowling practice. The nets are in the south west corner of the ground behind the houses lining County Road.

Highworth: Andrew Forman who lives in the grade II-listed College House in Lechlade Road on the edge of the town has been given consent to repair the rotten timbers and evidence of previous repairs on the historic house’s porch.

A proposal to build two two-storey side extensions, a front canopy, a rear extension and to convert the garage at 3 Parklands Close in Old Walcot has been withdrawn.
