Motorists in Swindon are facing huge delays today as roadworks get underway at one of the town’s busiest roundabouts.

Work is currently taking place at the White Hart Roundabout where "essential maintenance” is taking place to repair structures at the junction.

Swindon Advertiser:

This means bridge parapets will be replaced and repaired and there will be structural repairs.

National Highways already warned motorists of the work taking place, but that has not stopped drivers from taking to the roads.

One lane is currently closed with traffic backing up along the A420 from the Oxford direction and on the A4312 along Oxford Road from Greenbridge.

Swindon Advertiser:

Traffic is also struggling to access the M4, junction 15 from the southbound direction of the A419.

Motorists have taken to social media to complain about the delays.

One driver said: “Avoid white hart roundabout, gridlocked, down to one lane, not a workman in sight.”

The White Hart Roundabout has had its fair share of problems over the years.

Motorists faced a total closure for three months in the run-up to Christmas last year after serious flaws in the roundabout's structure were discovered.

But even with that finished, they have since still found themselves stuck in traffic - particularly at peak times.

The £32 million scheme to revamp the roundabout was completed in June this year.
