As the news of Queen Elizabeth's passing was announced yesterday, the people of Swindon gathered across the town to show their sympathies.
An alter has been put up in Christ Church in Old Town, with a portrait photo of Queen Elizabeth with a book on condolences in front of it.
People shared their gratitude towards the Queen's service and her time on the throne.
One message read: "Thank you, Ma'am, for the devotion you showed to this country, and for the example of service you have set for us all.
"God save the Queen."
One couple, who wished to not share their names, said they were shocked to hear the news yesterday.
"It's the end of an era," they said.
"We had the honour of being in her presence during a parade in 2007 that our daughter performed in.
"There was nothing like being in her presence, and seeing her smile in real life.
"Her smile really was incredible. I'll miss that the most I think."
Amanda Collins, 32, explained how the walk from her home in Old Town to Christ Church felt 'eerie'.
"There's an unusual stillness in the whole of Old Town. It's a lot more quiet than usual.
"You can just sense it in the air that something big has happened."
