Work is currently underway on installing a new community 'secret garden' play area in Wroughton.

The area has been locked off to members of the public since Monday, September 5, which was when construction started

In its announcement of the impending work, the council said that the site which is tucked away behind some houses on Maskeleyne Way and Boness Road has needed their attention for some time.

It said: "We want this to be a place where people can enjoy the outdoors, relax on a bench and take their children or grandchildren to play."

The council is hoping that the groundwork, path and play equipment will be installed within a 6-week timescale and the area will be planted during the winter dormancy period of January to March.

Swindon Borough Council has made a donation towards the play equipment and will be sponsoring the planting scheme. Richard James Estate Agents are also providing funding for two new benches as well.

The council spokesperson added: "We would really like to invite local residents to help with the planting so watch this space for more details of a community engagement day.  If any local organisations might be interested in helping us make some bug hotels, please contact projects@wroughton.gov.uk."
