Highways England is warning motorists as a major road in Swindon closes for another weekend

The A419 northbound will be closed from 8pm on Friday, September 16 to 6am on Monday, September 19 and drivers are being told to watch out for delays.

Work is taking place on the bridge above the White Hart Roundabout where the A420 meets the A419 and the A4312.

A short diversion route will take drivers off the A419 and back on via the exit and entry slip roads, and the closure is being signposted on the M4 and M5 and along the A419 and A417 dual carriageways.

Over the weekend of September 3 and 4, huge delays occurred at the roundabout with traffic backing along Oxford Road towards Stratton.

Motorists took their frustration out on social media, with one driver saying: “Avoid white hart roundabout, gridlocked, down to one lane, not a workman in sight.”

Andrew Gale, National Highways’ Service Manager, said: “There will be reduced capacity around the White Hart roundabout, we understand this will add time to people’s journeys and we advise people to plan their journeys.

“We’ve been working with Swindon Borough Council, we have communicated the A419 closure well in advance with local businesses and communities, and we thank all drivers in advance for their co-operation and patience.”
