Funerals scheduled for Kingsdown Crematorium will go ahead on Monday September 19 – despite many across the country being postponed for the Queen’s state funeral.
Swindon Borough Council has confirmed the six ceremonies scheduled for Monday will go ahead – and it is anxious to let those people who were planning to go that they can still go to the facility in Kingsdown Road.
Elsewhere across the country many ceremonies have been postponed, even though there is no official ruling to cancel events - with the decision being left to individual councils.
The National Association of Funeral Directors made an announcement on social media amid speculation.
It read: "We've been asked if any other funerals will go ahead on Monday 19th September. Although work is still ongoing, some funerals will go ahead, others are moving to a different date - led by the needs s wishes of the bereaved families involved.
"Most funeral services booked for 19 September will have been arranged many weeks ago, so funeral directors and cemeteries/crematoria are working with families to find the best approach for each one."
The state funeral for Her Majesty will take place at 11am in Westminster Abbey. Following the ceremony the Queen’s coffin will be processed to Wellington Arch and then to Windsor where there will be a private committal service in St George’s Chapel.
The state funeral will be televised.
