Businesses and residents in Marlborough are hoping for a quick decision from Wiltshire council on cutting parking charges.
The town’s council wrote a letter to Wiltshire council saying that they wanted a fair deal on parking charges last week and so far have not seen a reply.
As the cost of living crisis bites, Councillor Jo Waltham said it was an important factor in protecting local businesses.
She said: “We need to look after and maintain our high street during this difficult time, we need to do everything we can.”
But it is not only shops, it is residents that need a fair deal as well, according to Cllr Waltham.
“The twelve-month parking permits in particular seem to be more expensive, so it just seems unfair to the residents who don’t necessarily have parking outside their own homes,” she said.
Councillors say that historically the town has been much more expensive than elsewhere and its time for a change.
