PLANS for more than 130 new homes in Chippenham are being considered by the council.
If the plans go through there will be 61 new homes at Hunters Moon and 70 on Saltersford Lane, Patterdown.
The Patterdown site sits to the south of Chippenham and is immediately to the west of Hunters Moon.
The development of Hunter’s Moon has been ongoing since 2017 but this new plan will add a further 61 homes to the existing plans for over 500 homes.
Bloor Homes is pushing for the development at Hunters Moon and its plans say: “This application should be considered in context with Wiltshire’s urgent housing need and in the absence of a deliverable 5-year housing land supply.
“The provision of high quality, sustainably located homes, 40% of which will be affordable, will help to resolve this identified housing need in Chippenham.”
The 61 homes would go on land that was initially going to be used for industrial purposes, just outside Chippenham town centre.
Of the 61 dwellings, 37 would be for sale, 15 would be rented and nine would be shared ownership.
Waddeton Park Ltd is pressing for development in Patterdown and its plans say: “The development at Saltersford Lane seeks to establish the basis for a residential scheme that is characterised by its location, a green and leafy environment, memorable streets and spaces and a range of open market and affordable family homes - a lovely place to live.”
It adds: “The site represents an excellent opportunity to deliver a high-quality new development in a sustainable location, with limited impacts, in order to address the ongoing housing shortfall.
“The development will have good connectivity to local services.”
Wiltshire council has been pushing for more housing since 2014, which has sometimes provoked fears of overdevelopment.
In 2016 Wiltshire Council declared that 4,510 new dwellings must be built in the 20-year period ending 2026.
The proposals for both sites in Chippenham are at the consultation stage and will go forward to the planning committee for a decision when planners have heard the views of local people.
