A multi-vehicle smash has closed the A419 this afternoon.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix has reported that the crash which took place at roughly 1.30pm Sunday afternoon involved two cars and a caravan
Wiltshire Police later confirmed that it was between a car and a car towing a caravan and that only minor injuries occurred.
As a result, the A419 was closed from B4192 Purley Road (Commonhead Interchange) all the way to the A420 Merlin Way (White Hart roundabout)
Highways England also confirmed the incident on its Twitter page.
"The A419 in Wiltshire remains closed northbound between the A4259 (Commonhead) and the A420 (Swindon) due to a multi-vehicle collision," it said.
Adding: "Emergency services including Wiltshire Police are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also providing assistance with traffic management."
Traffic is reported to be slow, and drivers are using Dorcan and Nythe as a diversion leading to police urging motorists to avoid the area.
In a post on Facebook, the force said: "TRAFFIC UPDATE: The A419 northbound just past the Dorcan turning is experiencing heavy traffic due to an earlier accident. We would advise all motorists to avoid this section of the carriageway if at all possible."
Diversion information has been provided by Highways England for the duration of the closure, which is as follows.
Diversion Route
Diverted traffic is advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol.
- Exit the A419 at Commonhead Roundabout
- Take the 1st exit and join the A4259 towards Swindon
- Continue on the A4259 until the roundabout with the A4312
- Turn right and join the A4312 Drakes Way northbound
- Continue on the A4312 Oxford Road to then re-join the A419 at White Hart Roundabout
If this closure impacts your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.
Update: Swindon Police have confirmed the road is now open as of 14.20
