A VIOLENT man has been sentenced for assaulting five police officers and carrying sharp objects in Cricklade.
Shane Wopling, of no fixed abode in Cirencester, appeared in court and admitted to all the charges against him earlier this month, when he gave his address as Vyners Close.
The 27-year-old then returned to the dock for sentencing on September 15.
He had Stanley knife blades on him while in Parsonage Farm Close on August 16, and admitted using violence to secure entry to premises on the same street on May 26.
For these offences, he received a £350 fine, a community order requiring him to have up to six months of treatment for alcohol dependency and up to 15 days of rehabilitation activities, and a restraining order banning him from going near or contacting a woman until March 2023.
While in Cricklade on August 16, he assaulted three male and two female police officers by beating them while they were trying to carry out their duties.
For this violent behaviour, Wopling must pay £50 in compensation to three of his victims and £20 in compensation to the remaining two emergency service workers he hurt.
