A REPEAT offender has avoided jail after harassing and assaulting the same woman.
Craig Gleed was sentenced to 20 weeks, suspended for two years. It not be activated unless he commits another crime.
He was told the severity of the sentence was due to due to repeat offending of assault and because it was domestic.
The 35-year-old, of Cherry Tree Grove, was convicted of harassing a woman in Swindon between July 7 and August 6 by making hundreds of phone calls and sending several WhatsApp messages.
He was also found to have five grams of cannabis in his possession on August 16.
He was sentenced for assaulting the same woman on June 4 and beating her on June 15. Gleed had previously denied the charges, but later changed his plea to guilty.
Swindon Magistrates' Court issued a restraining order banning him from contacting or going near his victim for two years, and revoked an old community order to issue a new one.
This new order requires Gleed to take part in an accredited programme for 29 days and participate in rehabilitation activities for up to 25 days.
He must pay £85 in court costs as well as £128 towards victim services.
