Plans have been submitted for up to 30 new homes in Trowbridge.
If the plans succeed the houses will be built along with new estate roads and footpaths on land west of Wesley Lane at Lamberts Marsh, Southwick.
Many locals are strongly opposed to the plans, which were submitted by planning consultants Aspect360 Ltd.
Local residents Helen and Steve McDougall said: “Flooding is an issue in the Lamberts Marsh area. Traffic is a concern-peak times are especially busy I feel adding to this will cause serious problems. The local primary school is at its full capacity as it is.”
The new buildings will be built across two hectares and made up of two, three, four and six-bedroom houses. Nine of these homes have been allocated as discounted housing for local residents.
The plan says the site is arable land no longer suitable for modern-day farming.
It adds: “The proposal is a high-quality bespoke development that compliments countryside living, designed to be sensitive to the rural character of Southwick.”
The homes are part of a Wiltshire Council scheme called Southwick Neighbourhood Development Plan 2018-2036, which states 950 new homes will be needed in this period to meet the housing needs of Trowbridge.
