A LORRY fire caused traffic problems on one of Swindon's busiest roads earlier today.
The vehicle fault happened on the southbound carriageway near the Commonhead and M4 Junction 15 roundabouts
Police officers and crews from Stratton and central Swindon's fire stations attended the scene.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "We were called at around 9.40am on September 26 to a lorry fire on the A419.
“The fire has now been extinguished and the recovery operation is ongoing.”
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: "The fire was confined to the axle area of the lorry and was out on arrival.
"Crews used a hose reel jet and thermal imaging camera to monitor temperatures.
"The incident was then handed over to the driver and police whilst awaiting recovery of the vehicle."
By midday, the flow of traffic had returned to normal and the vehicle had been recovered from the carriageway.
