THE M4 near Swindon was closed in both directions.
A lorry fire shut the entire motorway at Junction 15 at around 10.30am this morning.
Traffic near the Marlborough Road turn-off was held temporarily in both directions.
Emergency service crews are at the scene.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "Please be aware that the M4 is closed in both directions near J15 due to a lorry fire.
"Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes while emergency services attend the ongoing incident.
"We will provide updates once the motorway has reopened."
One carriageway of the M4 reopened at around 10.45am and traffic in that direction is flowing as normal again.
Lane 3 on the eastbound side reopened past the scene at around 11.15am.
A National Highways spokesman added: "Westbound is now open, eastbound remains blocked for ongoing lorry fire. Please consider alternative routes.
"Lanes 1 and 2 remain closed at the scene. Fire service and Traffic Officers remain in attendance. Please take care on approach and thank you for your patience."
Normal traffic conditions are expected between 1pm and 1.15pm, according to the M4 Traffic page.
