TANK running a little empty? Refuel light popping up on the dashboard? Need to get petrol but don't want to break the bank?

You've come to the right place.

Fuel prices may be lower at the moment than the eye-wateringly-high amounts they reached earlier this year, but topping up at the pumps can still prove to be pricey.

The Adver has had a look around to determine which petrol station offers the most value for money. These were the prices at time of writing.

SMALLER CHAINS AND INDEPENDENTS

Breeze on Newport Street and Applegreen on Great Western Way are each offering petrol for 159.9p a litre and 178.9p for a litre of diesel.

SHOPS

If you're heading to the shops, Sainsburys on Oxford Road has petrol for 159.9p a litre though diesel is 181.9p a litre, while the big Tesco Extra has the same petrol price but diesel is 179.9p a litre.

Sainsburys Bridgemead has petrol at 160.9p a litre and diesel for 179.9p a litre. Asda on Thamesdown Drive has similarly-priced diesel but petrol is 162.9p a litre.

SHELL

Shell on the A420 in South Marston and on Rodbourne Road have the joint-cheapest price in the area of 159.9p-a-litre. with diesel at 183.9p a litre.

Oddly, the Marlborough Road Shell near Coate Water has more expensive petrol (162.9p) but cheaper diesel (181.9p), though Highworth's Shell on Swindon Road has cheaper prices for both (161.9p petrol, 179.9p diesel).

The Mead Way station is the priciest for both types of fuel (165.9p petrol, 182.9p diesel).

BP

The BP garage on the other side of the Coate roundabout has petrol for 163.9p-per-litre and diesel for 182.9p-a-litre.

Cheaper fuel can be found at its Bridge End Road and Cricklade Road forecourts (both 161.9p petrol, 179.9p diesel) but it's more expensive at Blagrove on Great Western Way (164.9p petrol, 187.9p diesel).

ESSO

The cheapest Esso is on Fleming Way (162.9p petrol, 181.9p diesel) with the Dorcan Way Esso garage having petrol at 163.9p a litre and diesel for 182.9p a litre.

Its Chiseldon branch on Marlborough Road has similarly-priced diesel but wants more for petrol at 164.9p a litre.

TEXACO

Texaco's Queens Drive base has petrol for 163.9p a litre and diesel for 182.9p a litre. Its Kingshill Road petrol station has cheaper petrol (159.9p a litre) but diesel costs more (183.9p a litre).
