AN IMPORTANT change will be made to a Swindon library which will make it more accessible for visitors.
Stratton St Margaret Parish Council agreed at a meeting on Wednesday evening to install a lift in Beechcroft Library.
This will cost £17,285 and use money from the EMR Library Transitional Funding. Funding from the same source will pay for additional work which will need to be carried out before the lift is installed.
That work includes an asbestos refurbishment survey (£525), a new power supply (£2,000), new flooring (£3,500), and the removal of the lobby lights (£1,000).
Coun Tom Butcher said: "Very pleased that Stratton Parish council have voted in favour of installing a lift into the library at Beechcroft.
"This is the first step in making the library more open, available and accessible to all the residents of Stratton.
"This will be paid for from funding we received from Swindon Borough Council when we took on the library.
"We are doing our best to provide a good service for the residents, the staff and volunteers at the library are excellent and invaluable.
"More developments for the library hopefully to follow. Please join us at the Property Committee in two weeks' time to see the discussions."
