A FORMER superstore next to one of Swindon's busiest roads has been completely gutted.

The interior of the old TK Maxx site on Great Western Way has been entirely removed, as has most of the walls and exterior signage, so now only the main support pillars and roof remain.

These recent pictures show the significant extent of the work being carried out on the building to turn it into a Home Bargains.

A completion date for the revamp is not yet known but it still looks a long way from being finished.

This effort began in the closing days of August, shortly after TK Maxx reopened in its new home inside the old John Lewis at Home building at Mannington Retail Park.

Last year, the company which owns Home Bargains submitted plans for a 'comprehensive refurbishment' of the large unit which would include new cladding, an external display area, a new customer entrance/exit lobby, alterations to the car park and a cafe space.

TJ Morris' plans have been approved. The application suggests up to 100 jobs could be created by the new shop being set up.

On Monday morning, workers could be seen on the roof preparing a new section on the top of the building's framework.
