Many planning applications are being reviewed by Wiltshire Council this week, including proposals to demolish old people's housing for 17 new homes in Burbage.

BURBAGE: Plans have been submitted to demolish housing created for old people on Seymore Court, Blackmans Lane SN8 3TW and replace them with 17 new affordable homes.

There are to be 11 homes with two bedrooms and six with three bedrooms.

Currently 25 flats and one house are on the site. They were built in 1983 and are well maintained but the plans argue that the buildings have proved difficult to rent out because they are too small.

Comments received at the public consultation event expressed disappointment with the loss of the existing elderly persons accommodation from the site.

The plans were submitted by Aster Communities.

There will be two parking spaces for each of the houses.

The application says: “With respect to the proposed housing mix, the proposal is for 100 per cent affordable homes in a mixture of Affordable Rent and Shared Ownership tenures”

It adds: “The provision of family homes will contribute to the sustainability of Burbage as a rural village, with future occupants able to support local services such as the school and post office.”

Melksham: Plans have been submitted for cow housing with robotic milking facilities in Norrington Gate Farm, Norrington Gate, Broughton Gifford.

D Mortimer and Sons are aiming to build the housing on their 400 acre dairy farm which sits within a rural area approximately two kilometres west of the town of Melksham.

The plans says the applicant milks approximately 200 dairy cows at the farm, and rears approximately 100 youngstock. The agricultural buildings in the farmyard were constructed prior to 1980 and facilities are now somewhat dated.

The surrounding land uses include agricultural land to the north-west south-east, the applicant’s farmyard, a farmworker dwelling and a haulage yard to the south-west and agricultural land and a solar farm to the north-east.

The nearest dwelling not associated with the agricultural unit lies over 300 metres away.

The building has been designed to ensure spacious bedded yard area and excellent ventilation, together with an efficient robot milking system.

CHIPPENHAM: Plans have been submitted for the creation of a one bedroom flat at 11 Station Hill, SN15 1EQ through a Roof extension. The applicant also wants to build two more two bedroom flats via the conversion of existing maisonette on first and second floor. The plans were submitted by Mr S Hamid.

Chippenham Town Council have also submitted an application for Neeld Hall, Borough Parade. The plans are aimed at an internal refurbishment of the Meeting Place and Former Corn Exchange, the replacement of external doors and windows and new external lighting.

DEVIZES: An appeal has been made after planning inspectors turned down an application to build up to 57 homes on land north of Quakers Road and South of Parkfields, Devizes.

The land, which forms part of Wiltshire Police HQ, is to be sold by the PCC as it has not been used in years.

The plans have been heavily criticsed in recent years, with Devizes counillor Judy Rose, who represents South Ward, describing the proposals as "dreadful".

The application came after the then Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Wiltshire and Swindon Angus Macpherson reviewed all police sites and associated buildings as part of his Estates Strategy 2017-21.
