Dozens of flowers, cards, balloons and other objects have been left on a bridge over the M4 after the death of a young woman. 

21-year-old Jodie Costello, from Wroughton, died on Saturday, October 1, following an incident on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 near the A4361 road bridge between junctions 15 and 16.

The colourful sight, which takes up almost the entire length of the bridge, shows the unmistakable outpouring of grief and loss from family, friends, colleagues and members of the public.

Many who have left cards, or written messages on the bridge itself, have shared their fond memories of times with Jodie, all highlighting her positive character and the kind person she was. 

One person wrote: "I will never forget our trips or nights out. I will cherish those memories."

Another said: "What can I say, you're going to be so missed on our trips to Weston, breakfast at the Toby, nights out with the girls and just in general by so many people."

"I hope you know how much we love you, you will always be in our hearts," another message said. 

As well as the flowers, balloons and cards, one person has drawn a picture, another has left a can of Monster energy drink and someone else has left a box of Pokemon cards. One person also alluded to Jodie always changing her hair colour. 

After her death, Jodie's family released a statement via Wiltshire Police, along with a photo of her.

“Jodie was a well-loved daughter and sister and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her," it said.

A police spokesperson added: "Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe the deceased to be Jodie.

"Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Jodie’s death are ongoing, however, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances.

"Our thoughts remain with Jodie’s family and friends at this difficult time."

Emergency services attended the incident at 2am on Saturday but Jodie was found to have died at the scene

Throughout the morning, police closed the motorway through Swindon in both directions.

At around 9:30am the westbound side of the carriageway reopened for traffic as police continued to investigate. 

The force has now appealed for witnesses to come forward.
