A WOULD-BE thief tried to get into a locked car parked on a Swindon street.
Police are appealing for information after a member of the public noticed someone suspicious near their home.
A CCTV image from 4.45am on September 28 has been released as officers are trying to identify a suspect as part of the investigation.
A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "We are trying to identify this man after an attempted theft from a vehicle in Swindon.
"It is believed the car’s key fob could have been cloned to gain access to the car on Farmers Crescent.
"If you can help with our enquiries, please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 54220102081, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
The police has previously warned motorists about possible thieves trying to gain access to their vehicles after a number of reports of thefts around the borough.
For example, on September 2, an elderly woman had £10,000 in cash stolen from her car, which had been parked behind Lloyds Bank in Old Town, while she was in the bank.
The thief smashed the back window of her car and took two handbags full of savings before getting into another car and speeding away from the scene.
