A pub in Wanborough has closed its doors for good under its current owners.
Members of the village community were reportedly told by staff at The Cross Keys that it was closing for good on Friday, October 7.
Now a representative of the landlords at the pub has confirmed to the Adver that this is the case and it will not be reopening.
The Google page for the business, based on Burycroft, also now lists it as 'permanently closed.'
Responding to a post from a dismayed member of the public on the Wanborough Notice Board community Facebook page, landlord Karianne Lee said: "So sorry to everyone, me and Nathan gave it a go."
Karianne and Nathan had taken over management of the building in November last year when it reopened for the first time since closing due to the pandemic.
The pub was the last one in the village to reopen following the lifting of Covid restrictions. Its doors opened to the public on November 5, 2021, after undergoing some construction work.
This was because after all pubs were forced to close in March 2020, its landlord at the time, Kirstie Mingham, accepted a new position at a different venue leaving it without someone to run it.
Since then it has hosted many events including charity fundraisers, live music and even a dog show.
In 2018 the pub received a £280,000 makeover from owners Wadworth who removed an old conservatory and added an extension to make it bigger.
This closure will serve as a consequence of the cost of living crisis which has sent energy costs in particular through the roof, but also a consequence of the ongoing road closures that have stifled visitors to Wanborough.
Earlier this month the Adver reported on how the closure of Wanborough Road, the main route from Swindon into the village, was 'killing' local businesses.
Two landlords, Sanjay Dogra from The Harrow, and Paul Studholme from the Brewer's Arms, both lamented the impact on their businesses, with Paul warning that 'the future is bleak'
Wanborough Road was initially due to close for 12 weeks from June 6 until September 9, but the discovery of Roman remains has pushed back the reopening date considerably
Swindon Borough Council has suggested it may take until next June for contractors to finish off the work.
But it has arranged for the road to be reopened in November to allow for Christmas trade to be unimpacted before it will close again in January.
