Vintage train lovers of both steam and diesel are set to be treated, as a number of charter trains are set to pass through Wiltshire.
Throughout November and December, a number of special steam and diesel trains are going to pass through the county including towns such as Swindon.
A number of tour companies put these special trips on to give people a glimpse of what train travel was like during the 20th century.
Below is a full list of charter trips that are listed for November and December as the festive season draws in.
The Welsh Marches Express
On November 12, a Swindon-built locomotive will pass through its hometown with the Welsh Marches Express.
Vintage Trains is running the special train which is currently scheduled to run from Tyseley near Birmingham to Hereford via Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.
The return leg will see depart Hereford for Tyseley, but it will go through Newport before heading eastwards towards Bristol and Swindon.
Motive power is set to be in the form of Castle Class locomotive Earl of Mount Edgecumbe, however, Vintage Trains says there is a possibility that it may not be ready in time.
Should that be the case, sister engine Clun Castle will haul the train.
Full timings for the trip have not been released yet.
The Cardiff Christmas Express
Princess Coronation Class, Duchess of Sutherland is set to pass through Swindon with a special train to Cardiff on Tuesday, November 22.
Number 6223 was built by the LMS in 1938 and is currently the only member of the class to be mainline certified.
It is currently owned by The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust.
The steam locomotive is set to depart from London Victoria to the Welsh Capital at around 7am and will pass through Reading and Didcot at around 9am and 9.30am respectively.
It will take the Golden Valley line towards Gloucester, before heading along the River Severn to Cardiff.
Later on in the day, the special train will return to London using the same route.
Approximate timings are as follows: Outbound/return
London Victoria: 7am/10.45pm
Staines: 8am/9:50pm
Reading: 9am/8.45pm
Didcot Parkway: 9.30am/8.10pm
Gloucester: 12.00/6.40pm
Cardiff: 1.20pm/4.40pm
The North Eastern Christmas Markets
Railway enthusiasts are set for an early start as the North Eastern Christmas Markets is set to make a 270-mile journey from Swindon to Newcastle.
Pathfinder Tours is giving Swindonians the opportunity to visit the famous northern city on December 3.
The locomotive that is rostered for the trip is D9009 Alycidon a member of the famous Deltic diesel class.
These engines can do up to 100mph and have over 3000 horsepower.
For 20 years these locomotives were the mainstay of services along the East Coast mainline.
The train is set to depart Swindon at 6.30am and return at 11.20pm
The Bath and Bristol Christmas Market
‘Duchess of Sutherland’ is set to be in action once again on December 10, when it hauls a special train from London to Bristol.
The route will that is scheduled will not take it through Swindon, but instead along the former London & South Western Railway’s route via Andover to Salisbury.
From here the train will cross the edge of Salisbury Plain on route to Warminster.
It will then reach Westbury, and will then follow the scenic Avon Valley through to Bradford on Avon before joining the Great Western main line on the outskirts of Bath.
It is due to reach Bath at around 1pm before returning at 4.55pm.
The train is due to arrive at Bristol 1:25pm, with the return time being 4.35pm.
Additionally, Duchess of Sutherland will head back to the capital through the Wiltshire countryside.
