THE Mayor of Swindon has had a busy few weeks in the run up to a major fundraising event.
Coun Abdul Amin has arranged a day full of food stalls, Henna tattoos, Indian attire, snacks, savouries and desserts at Broadgreen Community Centre next Saturday from 2pm to 6pm.
Proceeds from the event will go to his chosen charities, STEP Swindon and the Zam-Zam Charitable Trust.
In the meantime, he has been hosting noteworthy visitors to Swindon in his mayor's parlor.
Members of Dhaka University in Bangladesh came to our town as part of the public research's university's centenary celebrations which took place in London earlier this month.
While they were in the UK, the academics went to meet Mr Amin.
Coun Amin said: "They were really proud that Swindon is so diverse and has a British Bangladeshi mayor. They were pleased with our hospitality."
A few days later, he met with Swindon Welcomes Ukraine chair Sofiia Volovyk, Ukrainian refugees, and community advocates for a welcome reception and tour of the Civic Council Chamber.
The visitors expressed their gratitude for the hospitality provided by the people of Swindon in supporting their cause and helping them settle into their new lives.
