The main route to Wanborough from Swindon will not be opened on Monday as planned.

Wanborough Road, which has been closed to traffic since June will remain shut for another week, with the anticipated re-opening date now set as Monday, November 14.

The closure has caused issues for businesses in the village, with one pub landlord telling the Adver that it is worse than the Covid pandemic.

Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for strategic infrastructure and transport and the ward councillor for Ridgeway - which covers Wanborough - Gary Sumner provided an update on his Facebook page Ridgeway Ward.

Coun Sumner wrote about the work to upgrade the road in preparation for the building of the Redlands Farm development as part of the New Eastern Villages.

He shared an update from the contractor Conlon: “Last week’s tasks resulted in a design change to the levels of the entrance heading towards Wanborough due to drainage clashes with the gas main. The team on site are on programme, however this change has resulted in more tarmac regulating to the carriageway.

"In short, the road will not be open on 07/11 as previously requested by Swindon Borough Council.  A revised opening date is suggested to be 14/11/2022.

“In the event the road is available to be re-opened sooner, we will do this and notify all in due course.”
