A CHURCH in Lyneham has been covered with thousands of knitted poppies in a spectacular Remembrance display.
St Michael's Church on Calne Road always hosts a remembrance service on November 11 but this year, the church wardens decided to go the extra mile to pay their respects to the fallen.
Lynn Thrussell and Geoff Jackson-Haines created a flowing display of 2,000 red poppies which cascade down from the church's tower and cover a wall before spreading along the ground below.
Lynn said: "We have never done something this big for Remembrance before. We've been knitting every now and again since the start of the year to make enough poppies.
"We have received so many lovely responses since it went up on Sunday."
Lyneham has a proud military history as the Ministry of Defence site has been training Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers technicians for many years, and used to be an RAF base during the Second World War.
The area's Garden of Remembrance opened in Lydiard Park last week and is open daily from 10am to 3.30pm until November 27, when it will close with another service at 2.30pm.
There will be a two-minute silence observed every day at 2pm.
