A farm café in Devizes have applied for a licence to sell alcohol in a converted barn to host events.

The Rowdey Cow Farm currently has a licence for the café but if Wiltshire Council accept the application, events like Christmas parties, weddings and business meetings will be able to take place in the barn.

The owner of The Rowdey Cow café Sue Thompson said: “We’re a farm café and we make our own ice cream. The summer months are a lot busier than the winter months. We’ve got an alcohol licence for the café building.

“We do weddings and private functions and business breakfasts and meetings. Normally we have to shut off the café but now we’ve got the barn so we can use that separately, but we need to get a separate alcohol licence for that as well.

“We used to rent the barn out as a farm shop, but they’ve closed so we’ve taken it back.”

She said there wouldn’t be a worry about any disturbance to neighbours, particularly as the farm is fairly isolated.

Ms Thompson added: “We came out of lockdown really strong and it’s busier now than it has been but with the recession coming up, it is a bit of a concern but for the moment we’ve been unaffected.”
