Police have used a stinger to halt a blue Ford Transit van in its tracks after growing concerned for the welfare of its driver.

Earlier in the day, Wiltshire Police had issued a public appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of a man in his 30s who was last seen driving on the A436 at Chiseldon towards Marlborough.

A few hours later another post was made on social media confirming that he had been found safe and well.

"Thank you to everyone who shared our earlier appeal regarding the missing Swindon man Dean. We are pleased to confirm he has been found safely," a spokesperson said.

Later on the same day, the Wiltshire Spec Ops Twitter page which provides live updates on Roads Policing and Armed Response police activity in the area, revealed that both teams were called out to a blue Ford Transit van over welfare concerns

It added that they used special measures to stop it from being able to drive away.

The tweet said: "#RPU and #ARG responded to concerns for the welfare of this van, the vehicle was stung by RPU to prevent any pursuit, and specialist support has been provided for the occupant. #3outOf4Tyres."

The tweet was accompanied by a picture of the blue van with a police car behind it, and another showing multiple puncture holes in the tyre.
