The elderly woman who was airlifted to hospital after crashing into a tree near Marlborough has died, police have confirmed.
The woman, in her 80s, crashed her Suzuki Swift into a tree while driving on the A436 at Cadley, between Marlborough and Burbage on Saturday afternoon.
She was immediately airlifted to Southmead hospital in Bristol with life-threatening injuries, but a statement from Wiltshire Police released on Sunday evening confirmed that she had succumbed to those injuries.
"Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time," a police spokesperson said.
The road was closed from the Salisbury Hill Marlborough side and Wootton Rivers south side for the remainder of the day on Saturday and remained closed well into Sunday night as Wiltshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Team investigated the incident.
Following the news of the woman's death, police have reiterated a previous appeal for any potential witnesses to come forward
"We are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage," the spokesperson added.
