Emergency services were on the scene outside Covingham Minimarket on St Pauls Drive after an incident this evening.

Both police and ambulance services attended at around 5:12pm this evening and one witness said that a young girl had been knocked down by a car.

Wiltshire Specialist Operations confirmed on Twitter that a car had hit a pedestrian on the adjacent Kingfisher Drive but that the victim only had minor injuries.

The witness, who works as security across the street, did not see the accident but was on the scene in the immediate aftermath as the victim received treatment in an ambulance.

The police are no longer at the scene and have been approached for comment.

The incident comes after a day of chaos on the roads of Swindon.

The A419 remains closed after a serious crash at around 2.30am this morning, in which one man was confirmed to have died.

A police spokesperson said: "The incident took place at approximately 2.30am today and involved a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle near the Merlin Way bridge.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

"Drivers are advised that closures will be in place on both carriageways of the A419 at Dorcan Way and at the White Hart roundabout near the Honda factory until late this evening”.
