A DRIVER sped through a red light on a busy main road in Swindon as children were about to cross.
Dashcam footage shared by police on social media shows the moment a motorist ignored the traffic signal going from yellow to red and did not slow down.
Instead, the car continued onwards along Queens Drive, speeding past young pedestrians who were waiting to step onto the tarmac near the junction with Somerville Road.
A marked police car happened to be behind the vehicle at the time and later caught up to it. Officers then gave the driver a traffic offence report - meaning they will either be issued with a fixed penalty notice or an awareness course.
This formed part of the police's Project Zero initiative, which began earlier this week in communities across Wiltshire and focuses on tackling the fatal five offences: excess speed, drink or drug driving, driving while using a mobile, driving while not wearing a seatbelt and careless or dangerous driving.
