POLICE have set up a cordon around a town centre car park.
Officers responded to a mental health incident at the Brunel West Car Park on Farnsby Street at 6am on Saturday morning.
A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Farnsby Street and Commercial Road were closed off for around an hour.
The roads are now open. A cordon is still in place near the car park and is expected to remain there for the next few hours.
Two police cars are at the scene and three officers are searching the grassy area near the spiral ramp which leads to the top of the Brunel Shopping Centre.
Wiltshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, in keeping with standard practice when responding to incidents of this nature.
Supt Phil Staynings said: “At around 6am this morning (19/11) we attended an incident relating to a person’s welfare.
“The man is receiving appropriate treatment and care. A cordon has been set up and you will notice an increased police presence in the area.”
