The actions of a man seen doing donuts and driving the wrong way around a roundabout have been described as a 'danger to the public'.
Daniel Bassent, 26, has been banned from driving after he was seen driving recklessly in North Star Avenue, Swindon.
In a video taken by a member of the public on May 7 this year, Daniel Bassett, from Osbourne Street, is seen drifting and doing doughnuts in his Lexus car around a small roundabout near North Star House.
At one point he drives the wrong way around a roundabout leaving it via the entrance lane and then does a u-turn to rejoin the roundabout.
Appearing before Swindon Magistrates' Court on November 22, Mr Bassent pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving.
He has been sentenced to attend rehabilitation appointments and participate in any activity as required by the responsible officer for up to a maximum of 15 days.
He is also required to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and to pay £85 court costs and a £95 surcharge.
On top of that, he has been disqualified from driving for 15 months, with a requirement to take an extended driving test before this disqualification is lifted.
Reflecting on the sentence, Wiltshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Deb Smith said: “We welcome the sentence handed down to Bassett, his actions represented severely reckless behaviour and clear danger to those present and the wider public.
This follows a large and ongoing police clampdown that started in June to tackle anti-social driving which has been attributed to a small number of problematic drivers who attend larger-scale car meets in and around the town - particularly in West Swindon.
The operation was launched because earlier this year officers received several reports about vehicles speeding, racing, creating loud noises, wheel spinning, drifting, and burning tyre marks into the tarmac at large car meets across Swindon.
This led to a three-month partial closure order to be put in place for the car park outside the Bridgemead Sainsbury's and B&M.
Since then several arrests have been made for dangerous and illegal driving.
Assistant Chief Constable Smith added: “Op Staysail remains focussed on relentlessly pursuing those who are responsible for creating extremely dangerous situations on our roads whilst participating in disruptive car meets, we will continue to seek the strongest possible sanctions in such cases.”
