The family of a grandmother who died after her car struck a tree in the Savernake Forest earlier this month have paid tribute to her.
Margaret Smith was 82 when her Suzuki Swift crashed in a single-vehicle collision on Saturday, November 12 near Cadley, between Marlborough and Burbage.
The Cheltenham resident was officially identified as the victim of the crash on Wednesday (November 23) by Wiltshire Police.
Paying tribute, her family said in a statement: “Margaret was a very dear and much loved mum, grandma, sister and friend and we are all shocked and devastated by this sudden and tragic loss.
“Anyone who knew Margaret will know she had a big personality, and she will forever be in our memories and hearts.
“We appreciate all the messages of love and support that we have received and request that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”
Mrs Smith had been travelling on the A436 when her Suzuki Swift left the northbound carriageway at Cadley and crashed into a tree.
Emergency services arrived at the scene at 2.15pm and Mrs Smith was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
She died later that day in hospital after succumbing to her injuries.
No other cars were involved in the incident and the road remained closed between Salisbury Hill Malborough side and Wootton Rivers south side for the remainder of the day.
