The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for towns across western Wiltshire.
Malmesbury, Royal Wootton Bassett, Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon are all affected.
Both the Upper Bristol Avon area as well as the Mid Bristol Avon area have been flagged on the government’s flood alerts site as affected locations.
“River levels have risen at the Great Somerford river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, the risk of flooding remains,” read the Upper Bristol Avon area alert on the GOV.UK website.
“We expect flooding to affect the road at Reybridge. We expect river levels to remain high throughout Thursday and into Friday. We are closely monitoring the situation.”
“Our incident response staff are clearing weed screens. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and refer to local authority website for local road closures.”
The alert message for the Mid Bristol Avon area was similar, listing the affected locations as well.
“River levels are high but steady at the Bradford on Avon River gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, the risk of flooding remains,” read the alert.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads between Melksham and Bathford. The flood gates at Holt Road may be closed. We expect river levels to remain high throughout Thursday and into Friday. We are closely monitoring the situation. “
“Our incident response staff are clearing weed screens and in contact with community flood wardens and volunteers. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and refer to local authority website for local road closures.”
This comes as the county has received heavy showers of rain in the past few days.
On Wednesday, a yellow weather warning was issued for rain and wind across most of Wiltshire, which lasts until 7pm on Thursday.
The Met Office said: "A brief spell of heavy rain and squally winds perhaps causing some transport disruption and flooding."
It warned of spray and flooding on roads, with some delays, and the flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible.
Smaller signs of this can be seen in Swindon too with large puddles of rainwater located on Marlborough Road on Wednesday, November 23.
