A DRIVER suspected of causing serious injury to a teenage boy is now in police custody.

The 14-year-old pedestrian was airlifted to Bristol's Southmead Hospital in a critical condition after the accident on Akers Way opposite Nova Hreod Academy at around 8.20am on Friday morning.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the serious collision did not stop and instead left the scene, Wiltshire Police said.

After investigating throughout the morning, officers have now arrested a woman on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She is currently in custody at Gablecross for questioning.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman added: "We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision – if you were in Akers Way this morning and have information which could help, please call 101 and quote log number 67 of November 25."

The road has been closed for much of the day while police examine the area.
