THREE decades ago, Justine Ballamy started working at a flower shop in Highworth.
She had found a fondness for floral arrangements while working in the town's fruit and veg shop and training at Lackham Agricultural College (now Wiltshire College), then began this new job with the High Street shop's owner, Carol, at the age of 25.
A few years later, she took charge of the entire Highworth Flowers business - and is still there today with two colleagues helping out.
Justine told the Adver: "I'm not one for working in an office, I like meeting people and wanted to do something with my hands.
"I took over this shop the day after Princess Diana died, so it was a strange moment with mixed emotions.
"It's all gone so fast, I can't believe it's been 30 years, it doesn't seem possible.
"Highworth is a small, friendly community, it's my home, I'm so thankful to everyone who has supported this shop.
"It's a privilege to be part of the important times in people's lives, and very emotional - I've worked on thousands of weddings!"
Over the years, the hilltop town's specialist shop has helped mark every possible occasion with the perfect choice of petals and bouquets.
Justine's stock is sent in from all over the world - England, Holland, and South America.
There have been tough times - including economic crashes and a pandemic - but Justine has managed by making the most of the busiest periods.
The 53-year-old added: "At peak times, I'm here standing up and working 18-hour days for 12 or 13 days on the trot.
"I don't know how I got through the recessions, I just never gave up and kept trying my best to give a good service with a smile. I couldn't imagine not being on our high street!
"I try to cater to everyone's tastes and budgets - someone might spend £10 one week then £40 the next.
"Flowers last longer than a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates, so they're a brighter, healthier option for people buying gifts - but I never get given them!
"I'm surrounded by them all day, the smells and colours are good for my mental health, and I would struggle without them. Peonies are my favourite, though I love any flowers that are good quality."
Throughout this month, the shop staff have been delivering random bouquets to park benches, residential homes and other parts of Highworth to spread some love and mark its 30th year.
