A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital after being knocked down by a car.

Police were called to Bridge End Road, near the Dockle Farmhouse pub, at 5.55am, following a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

The road was closed at the time by emergency services and remained closed for a number of hours while officers carried out an investigation.

It was reopened at roughly 11am.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, suffered serious injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening, and has been taken to hospital.

“The road was closed but has now reopened. No arrests have been made.”

Pictures of the scene showed a cordon around a white car that did not appear to have any obvious damage. It was later taken away be a recovery vehicle.

A spokesperson from the South Western Ambulance Services NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that the victim was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for further treatment.

They said: “We were called at 05:55hrs to an incident in Swindon. We sent two double-crewed land ambulances and an operations officer and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”
