The father of the victim of a ‘hit and run’ incident in Swindon last week has come out to offer support to anyone who knew his son.
Harry Parker was just 14 years old when he died on Akers Way last week while crossing the road to go to school.
The death has caused shockwaves throughout Swindon and has led to residents helping Harry’s grieving family with support, donations, and tributes.
Now Harry’s father, Adam, has offered his support to those who are also struggling with the loss of his son and encouraged them to reach out to him.
“Adam has also asked us to say that he has been overwhelmed by the support he has received and said he is aware that Harry’s death will be felt throughout the wider community,” read a statement from Wiltshire Police.
“He expressed his wish that if anyone who knew Harry needs to reach out to someone at this incredibly difficult time, he is happy to be contacted via social media.”
This is the latest beautiful gesture to come from the tragedy as scores of Swindon residents have attended the site of the incident, laying bouquets of flowers, signed football shirts and scarves as well as photographs in tribute to Harry.
In addition to this, Swindon also rallied to raise thousands of pounds towards giving Harry the send off he deserves, following a GoFundMe page being set up in his name.
Over £20,000 has been raised so far, showing that the community stands united in solidarity with the grieving family of this tragedy.
In a touching tribute to his son, Adam noted how Harry would be missed by his family and recalled how his cheeky persona could light up a room.
“Our beautiful golden son Harry Parker was involved in a horrendous car incident along the horrible road Akers Way,” he wrote.
“Unfortunately, he lost his life far too soon. Harry will be missed by lots but no more than us, his family.
“So please at this time can we remember and honour him with lots of photos and any music you know he likes on his page.
“Harry was a cheeky chap that could light up the room with just his presence. He had the biggest heart and loved to make people laugh.
“We are very comforted by all the support from everyone. We will be doing something to make the road safer but please bear with us at this time.”
