The reason behind a police presence in West Swindon on Wednesday afternoon has been revealed.

Traffic was affected by the incident, backing up along Tewkesbury Way, Mannington Roundabout and nearby roads, and many have been wondering since yesterday what exactly caused the delays.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We attended Tewkesbury Way in response to a concern for welfare incident around 3.15pm yesterday (November 30) afternoon.

“The person involved is receiving appropriate care.”

The exact location was near to the Mannington Roundabout.

This is not the first time in recent months that motorists using the road network near this important junction have experience delays.

Back in October, road works caused serious delays and closures, angering locals who regularly use the roads.

There was set to be a refurbishing of the traffic lights as well as work to waterproof the section of the road bridge that goes over the River Ray.

This ended last month however as the Wootton Bassett Road finally reponed after the lengthy roadworks.

The road, dubbed as one of Swindon’s busiest, did have a temporary speed limit and closed lanes in place for around a month.
