North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson is urging people to donate a gift to Swindon Domestic Abuse support to bring some Christmas cheer to families who have endured abuse.
He has joined up with the charity, and said: “Christmas can be a very difficult time for families who find themselves in refuges - some families may have limited funds, and some families may have had to move into a refuge urgently leaving Christmas presents behind.”
Mr Tomlinson added: "Christmas is the perfect time to spread a little cheer. It would be amazing if people could pick up an extra gift while they are doing their Christmas shopping to donate to the appeal, it really could make a difference to someone’s Christmas."
Gifts can be dropped off at Mr Tomlinson’s constituency office at the Orbital customer service hub opposite the library, Westlea Primary School, Goddard Park Primary School, and Choice Trade Frames in Hawkesworth Trading Estate.
Gifts are needed for women and men, children of all ages, boys aged 10-17 in particular, and they must be new, unwrapped and in their original packaging
Ideas for gifts include toiletries, pyjamas, scarves and gloves, games, toys, puzzles, books, and even food items with long expiry dates such as mince pies, Christmas puddings, and crisps and snacks.
