The popular Christmas market held at a local Swindon brewery is returning this year.
Arkell's, a fixture of the town for decades, has confirmed that its Kingsdown Brewery will once again be home to a festive-filled market from December 10.
The market is held on the grounds of the Victorian steam brewery and has quickly become a key part of the festive calendar for many, as it combines a festive treat with a unique opportunity to get inside the gates and view the historic site.
Over 40 local and regional food and craftspeople will be selling their wares including jewellery, cakes, fudge, candles, chutneys and pet treats; something to cater for every member of the family.
Lesley Dicks, events co-ordinator, said: “So many people wonder what is beyond the brewery gates and this is a perfect opportunity to come and see this notorious building in the town – it’s a magical place at Christmas, the tree is up and the site is always full of a buzz and joy on the day of the market.
"When we hear that the children and their families have had such a lovely time, we invariably do it all over again, so please come and see us all on Saturday.”
Shoppers will be treated to the joyful singing of local choir ‘The Songbirds’, as well as music from ‘The Oompah Band’.
Visitors can also expect to find traders selling bratwurst sausages, pizza and Greek food, along with hand-warming drinks, mulled wine and Arkell’s seasonal favourite, Sir Noel Ale.
Santa Claus himself is also making appearances at the market from 10.30am-12pm and 1.00pm-2.00pm. No booking is required, just payment on the day of £5 per child, which includes gift.
Alex Arkell added that the Christmas market at Arkells is always a good time of year.
“We love having the opportunity to welcome our local community through the gates of the brewery," he said.
“It’s wonderful to see everyone getting into the festive spirit in the run-up to Christmas.”
Admission to the market is free and parking on site is available, although limited, so walking is encouraged if you are able to.
The Stagecoach number 10 bus also runs from Swindon Town Centre to Kingsdown.
