Heavy snowfall has forced two top attractions around Wiltshire to close for the day.

The decision was taken to close Longleat due to the wintery conditions which have made the Safari Park unsafe for visitors, it will be closed for the rest of today.

A spokesperson for the attraction said: “Due to the snow making conditions onsite unsafe today (Sunday 11th December), we have regrettably made the decision to close the park to all guests.

“Anyone who has booked for this date will automatically receive a full refund within two weeks.

“Guests wishing to rebook for another date can do this through our website.

“We still have availability on multiple days during The Festival of Light.

“Please follow us on social media for updates on tomorrow, the weather is forecast to be better, so we are hopeful. We appreciate your understanding at this time.”

And just over the border into Gloucestershire, Westonbirt Arboretum is also closed.

A tweet from Forestry England read: "Due to snow Westonbirt Arboretum is closed today for safety reasons. Adjacent A roads are also difficult for travelling."
