A SHEEP was savaged so badly by a loose dog in its field that it had to be put to sleep.
Police are investigating the incident and believe it could be the same dog that carried out a similar attack in the same field a fortnight before.
The sheep was chased and its throat and ear were badly bitten.
The incidents in Marlborough and Oare happened in September and October.
Officers from the rural crime team have appealed to anyone who may have information about the dog and its owner or witnessed the attacks.
People should contact PC Emily Thomas by calling 101 or emailing: rctc@wiltshire.police.uk
Under section 1 of the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 an offence is committed by the owner or person in charge of a dog if it worries livestock on any agricultural land.
The maximum fine for any committed is £1000.
