Swindon Town’s Marcel Lavinier gave a resoundingly positive message of unity and progress following a rocky spell for the club.
The Robins succumbed to a goalless draw against AFC Wimbledon at the weekend, making it five games without a win for Scott Lindsey’s side.
“I think our performances have been good. This is a step in the right direction, we lost two on the bounce but today we got a draw and a clean sheet,” said the 21-year-old.
“We have to take the positives. Yes, we would all like to win but as a team we are taking the clean sheet and the chances we created.”
Despite failing to score at the weekend, or in any of their last three matches, the former Tottenham Hotspur defender believes that there were plenty of pros to take away from the goalless stalemate.
“I feel that we looked quite sharp in and around the box. They sat very deep behind the ball and it’s difficult to break a team down like that,” said Lavinier.
“We defended well, and we stuck with it and I felt the majority of the second half was played in their half. We showed energy, we were just unlucky today.”
Although he picked up an injury in the match, Lavinier was quick to remind that unity at times like these is paramount.
“We fight as a team, and I feel that we are a big family.”
“When the players are injured, we have our arm around their shoulder telling them everything is going to be alright and checking up on them.”
Lavinier is no stranger to playing in several positions on the football pitch and the player addressed why this is a useful attribute to have for the Robins.
“I can play on the left and equally on the right. I think I show different attributes while playing off the left but wherever the gaffer wants me to play, I’ll play and do a job for him,” he said.
“It brings a bit of fluidity to the team and muddles up the opposition as it is hard to defend and hard to mark.”
When quizzed about Town’s upcoming League Two fixture against Barrow, the importance of getting a good result was not lost on Lavinier.
“Hopefully we perform well and get the win. Then we can put ourselves right back in there in the mix,” he said.
Swindon will travel to Holker Street on Saturday knowing that a win against Barrow will likely take them into the play-off positions heading into the festive fixture list.
