Another Swindon eatery has shocked members of the public by announcing its sudden closure.
Hot on the heels of the recent closures of Lamaya, Funky Grilla, and Dough&Co, Italian restaurant La Carbonara Swindon has quietly shut its doors for the last time.
An announcement posted on both its website and Facebook page indicated that health issues within the family were the reason for the unexpected move.
It said: "It's with a heavy heart to announce that due to health and family issues La Carbonara will be closed indefinitely as of today, Saturday, December 17."
The statement then continued by apologising to anyone who had an outstanding booking with them during the remainder of the festive period.
"We are very sorry if you have had a booking with us and any inconveniences this may cause.
"We are very thankful for all your support and praises over the many years of our restaurant lifetime and we are very sorry to have to let you down.
"We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."
La Carbonara was a family-run restaurant, managed by Lino and Sue Goncalves.
Members of the public have reacted to the closure announcement on Facebook by offering their support to the pair and bemoaning the loss of what many considered to be the best restaurant in the town.
Among the hundreds of comments underneath the post, one person wrote: "Dear Lino & Sue you have been a huge part of our lives. We have lots of special memories shared with you and the boys at the Carbs, we will miss you hugely on birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and just spending time in your company at the restaurant, wishing you all the best, take care of each other."
Another said: "Oh Sue and Lino, we are so sad and sorry to hear this. We think of you as friends, we have been coming to you for 15 years! Family is important! Thank you for all the many, many wonderful memories. We wish you all the very very best!"
A final person commented: "We are very sad to hear this! Carbonara is the best restaurant in Swindon. Wish you all the best and hope everything will be fine for you."
It's clear from the comments that the closure of La Carbonara is a real loss for the town.
