A POPULAR Old Town newsagent is selling off her sweets ahead of the shop's closure before Christmas.

Rosemary Earle has been behind the counter of M.I. Earle on Newport Street since the 1970s, helping her late husband Myles keep things running smoothly for decades.

Three generations of families have popped in regularly to say hi, pick up the day's papers and grab a quarter of sweets traditionally served in a small paper bag.

The 72-year-old took over full-time after Myles' death last autumn, and now she is preparing to say farewell to the store.

Every massive jar of sweets and big bar of chocolate must be sold off before the shutters come down on Christmas Eve, so shoppers who want to visit for one last look around should do so before 6pm on Saturday.

A new owner for the building is expected to be secured by January.

Speaking to the Adver last month, Rose said: "I’ve had a wonderful time in Old Town, the people are brilliant, generous, quirky and terrific. We've had a lot of ups and downs but it's been a lot of fun.

“The best business model is honesty, integrity, and value for money. You have to listen to what people want and do the best you can for your customers, then they will come back."
