Swindon Borough Council is set to join environmental campaign umbrella group UK 100.

According to its website: “UK100 is a network of local leaders who have pledged to lead a rapid transition to Net Zero with clean air in their communities ahead of the government’s legal target.

We do this through collaboration. To accelerate action, we believe in bringing together the most influential leaders across the country to learn together and agree on priorities for legislative and regulatory change.”

Members of the council voted unanimously for a motion put forward by Labour’s Jane Milner-Barry which requests the leader David Renard to look into joining the network and other relevant organisations.

The motion was seconded by Conservative member Jake Chandler who said: “A full membership of UK100 shows our clear intent to do all in our power to combat the issue, as well as working with other Councils to more effectively lobby national government."

"One third of other local authorities, including all our neighbouring councils are members of UK100. Swindon's commercial appeal to external investors in green technologies can only benefit through this.”

Coun Milner-Barry said she was grateful for the support of all members for her motion.
