THE roads have been getting a hammering this winter with floods, snow and ice.
Earlier this month we reported drivers' complaints that one pothole in Gipsy Lane had caused damage to tyres and wheels on numerous cars.
The borough council's cabinet member for highways Kevin Parry said there had been a large number of pothole reports and extra workers had been brought in to tackle them.
We asked readers where the worst pothole in Swindon was. Here are some of their suggestions.
Jennifer Taylor: “Austen Crescent it’s ridiculous!”
Sally Fisher: “All of Swindon, its one big pot hole.”
Linda Lee: “Every road basically.”
Joey Stevens: “Everywhere! Park South looks like it has been shot at and the ones that have been repaired look like some one has levelled them off with a spoon.”
Brian Hdi: “Pick any road! They are all unfit for purpose.”
Susan Bodman: “Eldene Drive. Try and find a piece of road without a pot hole more like it. Like Dodge City.”
Kev Richens: “When I learned to drive we drove on the left side of the road, now we drive on what’s left of the road!”
Mark Toombs: “Everywhere but seen one today in Parks, was a really bad one too.”
Tessa Simms: “Parks, Walcot, Penhill 1000% there are several around that get filled up then two weeks later, if that, they’re back to being pot holes. The council has filled them several times but as they’re never done properly it does not last!”
Pauline Carson: “Everywhere in Freshbrook. It’s about time they got on top of the pot holes as it’s damaging people’s tyres.”
Jayde Cotterill: “Everywhere. I swear more open up each day. When I travel to different places I’m always so grateful for a smooth road to drive on. I’m sure my poor car is too.”
Tim Curtis: “High Street, Blunsdon. Courtesy of Thames Water and their leaky pipes. All the patching has been destroyed by the cold weather ice.”
Phillippa Gabriel: “The roads are bad everywhere and what most people are writing is true. The holes are getting filled in two weeks later they’re back.
“What a waste of money, but truthfully I’d be happy as long as every pothole was surrounded by the yellow line at least I could dodge them or drive cautiously over them.”
Chantelle Collins: “Thank God the one on Gypsy Lane has been filled.”
Lucie Hamilton: “They filled some on Kingswood Avenue yesterday and the tar mix is all coming out again today, waste of money.”
Glyn P Morton: “Penhill Drive…. One complete pot hole.”
Liz Pollock: “Just off the A420 turning to the wind turbines at Watchfield - one of the many potholes on that road has got so deep it had a football inside it when I drove home tonight. Yes it’s an Oxfordshire Council problem but still in a Swindon postcode.”
Freyja Jane Viveash: “The one on the exit from the Nurseries onto Kings Hill! It’s about six inches deep.”
Jo Kimber: “Idovers Drive. There’s a whole load of them right down the hill.”
Bev Lloyd: “Morrisons car park in Dorcan about two foot long over a foot wide and a good six to seven inches deep, disgusting.”
Alex Morton: “Shouldn’t this post be name a road without a pot hole in Swindon?”
Helen Lawson: “Swindon is full of them, can’t pick just one for the road to be closed for a month.”
