THIS photograph from the Adver archive shows the town centre during a crucial period.
It seems to have been taken from or near the office building over Debenhams - formerly Bon Marche - in Fleming Way.
The architectural landscape has changed radically since, although some of the structures remain.
In the far centre right, the dome of the Oasis Leisure Centre, which would open on January 1, 1976, is taking shape, while at the far right looms Signal Point, which would be the tallest building in Swindon until the David Murray John Tower was built.
We can also see the Iffley Road gas holder, which survived until the early years of the current decade.
