A pensioner was left with a bloody injury after he was covered in glass when the bus he was on was hit by another bus.
Robert Murray-Graydon, from Liden, had just boarded the number 13 bus at the Swindon station following some shopping in town on Thursday, January 26.
Moments later, a Stagecoach bus reversed into the bus that Robert was sat on, which broke the window.
“I heard this loud toot from our driver, then there was a terrible crash and glass went everywhere,” he recalled.
“My window was smashed and I got the brunt of it, with glass all over me and the floor.
“I was getting the bus back to Liden to return home and had just sat down by the window at around 6.30pm.
“There were not many people on the bus and I was the only one sat by the window.”
During the pandemonium, the 68-year-old soon realised he had sustained an injury to his thumb as it has started to bleed heavily.
“It was all very terrifying and I noticed that my thumb was cut from the glass and was bleeding heavily,” he said.
“There was so much glass that I still have some shards in my coat that shine like tiny little diamonds.”
Following the incident, the staff at the bus station helped Robert with his injury and ensured that he was okay before he left the scene.
“The bus station staff gave me plasters and wipes, while the bus driver took my name and phone number,” he said.
“They were all very attentive and concerned but luckily I was not seriously injured as the bleeding stopped fairly soon after.”
Paul Coyne, Swindon’s Bus Company operations manager: "One of our vehicles was stationary in the bus station on Thursday evening, when it was hit at low speed by a Stagecoach bus which was being reversed off its stand.
“Unfortunately a customer, who was on-board our vehicle at the time, suffered a cut to their hand from a broken glass fragment. We wish them a speedy recovery.
“Our bus sustained a broken nearside window and some body damage.”
The event has left both its physical mental scars for Robert though, with the pensioner thinking twice before boarding a bus in the town again.
“I’m worried about getting the bus now as I’ve been walking around for days worried about what happened,” he revealed.
“Physically I wasn’t bad by the time I got home but I did feel all shaken up.”
